We look forward to hosting this work-in-progress screening and feedback session of the documentary film, “Inherited Silence” directed by Lola Barrero Iglesias. The evening will begin with a screening of last month’s DOCMA film, #108: ANCESTRY, followed by Lola’s film and an open feedback session Come along, share your thoughts, and be part of the creative process.} INHERITED SILENCE - SYNOPSIS (FEEDBACK FILM) In Inherited Silence, a filmmaker begins a deeply personal search to uncover her family’s untold history, prompted by a simple question about two fading portraits in her father’s home. Her investigation leads her to their ancestral village, a place still bearing the scars of the Spanish Civil War and the long shadow of Franco’s dictatorship. In the family’s old house she discovers letters and fragments of the past, piecing together the lives of relatives who suffered under the regime, those who were killed, those forced into exile, and those left to endure a lifetime of silence and unresolved grief. She often encounters her father’s reluctance, his silence shaped by decades of trauma, fear, and the instinct to survive. As she delves deeper, the filmmaker realises that justice and recognition for her family are not only acts of remembrance but essential steps toward breaking the cycle of intergenerational silence. Through this process she hopes her daughters will understand the resilience of those who came before them, creating space for healing and ensuring that the stories of the forgotten are never lost again FEEDBACK SESSION Following the screening we will have an informal feedback session where attendants will be encouraged to give feedback and thoughts to help the filmmaker improve their next cut. The feedback session will be hosted and facilitated by DOCo members, and we aim to make the space feel safe, open and the feedback constructive and critical. Please come and join us in shaping the future of the film. DOCMA We will also have the premiere of the latest DOCMA: #108: ANCESTRY after which, those who would like to take part in the next DOCMA will put their names in the hat. People of all backgrounds and interests are welcome. Tickets are free. Real timings may vary! DOCMA - THE DOCUMENTARY GAME As part of our event we regularly play a monthly game of DOCMA. DOCMA is a documentary game designed to involve anyone who wants to try to make a documentary, originally started by DocKlub inspired by the Dogme 95 manifesto. The basic principle is: 5 filmmakers make 5 films (each 1 minute long) on one common theme. Each filmmaker is allocated a documentary style in which to make their 1 minute film, and the filmmakers are not allowed to confer. At the given deadline the 5 films are collated and laid back-to-back on a timeline to create one five-minute film on the chosen theme. Credits are added and the ‘DOCMA film’ is then premiered to the filmmakers and a public audience at the same time. This month we will be drawing the names of participating filmmakers for next month’s event, so come and put your name in the hat. SUBMIT A FILM! We are still looking for work in progress documentaries to be screened for future events. If you have one and would like to screen it at DOCo please let us know.
