As part of Refugee Festival Scotland 2026, we are excited to present Southside Open Air Cinema Day, a full day of screenings and conversations taking place at Queen’s Park Arena in Glasgow Southside on Sunday 14 June. Bringing together filmmakers, artists, activists and local communities, the programme explores climate displacement, exile, memory, belonging and collective resistance through documentary and artist moving image. The day opens with the Scottish premiere of Black Water, presented in collaboration with Scottish Documentary Institute. The film examines the growing crisis of climate displacement in Bangladesh, where rising sea levels threaten to permanently submerge large areas of the country’s southern coastline. This is followed by Routes & Returns, a curated shorts programme featuring works by Bircan Birol, Razan Madhoon, Huss Al Chokhdar and Ahmad Awdallah. Across the programme, personal and poetic forms explore migration, queerness, longing and the fragments of home carried across borders. The day culminates in a special outdoor screening of Everybody to Kenmure Street, returning the film to the neighbourhood where the events it documents took place. Set against the Kenmure Street immigration raid in Glasgow Southside, the film documents the collective action that stopped two men from being detained by the Home Office. The screening will be followed by a live Q&A with Felipe Bustos Sierra, Aamer Anwar, Tabassum Niamat and Mohammad Asif. Together, the programme traces a journey through global crisis, lived displacement and public solidarity, creating a shared civic space for reflection, conversation and collective gathering in the heart of Glasgow Southside.
