Ping Pong (1986) - Film Screening
Hosted By Leith KinoWe at the Leith Kino collective are really excited to host this screening of Ping Pong (1986), an important and rarely seen landmark in British Chinese filmmaking. Directed by Po-Chih Leong, pioneer of the Hong Kong New Wave, Ping Pong bounces between noir, mystery, comedy and drama as it follows a young law student taxed with executing the unusually complex will of a Chinatown restauranteur. This was the first British-Chinese production, and one of the first shot in London's Chinatown. Ping Pong only had a limited release in London's west end in 1986, followed by one TV screening. We're thrilled to have it back on the big screen, where it remains a vital production showcasing the creativity of 1980s British cinema and a thoughtful representation of life for those in the Chinese diaspora. Tickets cost £5 and we have allocated handful of free tickets for those not in a position to pay. Please support your local Leith Kino! Drinks and refreshments are available to purchase at the Depot bar, alongside our monthly posters, each designed by a different Leith-based artist. Leith Kino Access Information - English subtitles will be onscreen for every screening, including descriptive captions where possible. - The screening room is on ground level and is wheelchair accessible from the Leith Depot bar with flexible seating to accomodate specific requirements. - There are accessible toilets in both the screening room and the bar.
